The body of work you see here is all porcelain. Each piece starts out as a common mass-produced item (or items) found in most households. I take these items and manipulate them in different ways, then cover them with several layers of liquid porcelain. The final surface treatment for each form is determined after the first firing; there is no pre-planning. I find it’s best to take this organic approach during the creative process, so the final result reflects the unique specimens found on dry land or in the depths of our oceans. I delight in playing with the dichotomy of synthetic mass-production and the rich uniqueness of nature.
